Networking Win-xp & Win2k
Recently I installed WIN-XP on one of my computers where previously I had WIN2K .
There are 2 computers and they were networked, with file and print sharing enabled on both of them. There were no problems and PC #2 could print documents thru pc#1's print sharing. After In snstalled WIN-XP on PC#1, PC#2 does not see PC #1, under WIN2K. However, I am able to ping PC#1 from PC#2. Meanwhile, PC#1 can see PC#2 in it's work group and can access the files on PC#2. What am i overlooking here? hobo827 |

Networking Question
Excuse me for taking so long to answer.
I had a problem in responding to this post, wasn't authorized to respond, that is resolved now Also, I was kind of embassesed to have to come back and ask what shared folders and set permissions were, so i did some research first. Anyway during my research i came across a solution, so my problem is resolved. thanks for Ur help hobo827 |

Networking Question
1. I went back and made sure that I had enabled file and print sharing on both PCs.
2.I determined that I could ping each PC. 3. I checked that both PCs were in the same workgroup. 4. I then took down the firewalls on both PCs. 5. I then checked to see if they saw each other, THEY DID!!! YIPPEE!!!! :-) 6. Then I checked to see which firewall was blocking the other. Determined that Norton was preventing PC#1 from seeing PC#2. (Now i have to learn how to tell Norton on PC#2 to grant Access to PC#1.) That was my solution. hobo3121 |

The easy way to share files and keep your firewalls up is install the NetBeui protocol on both computers. In Win2K it installs directly in the local area connection properties, with XP you need to do this:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...ng/netbeui.asp NetBeui is a nonroutable protocol that's invisible to the outside world. |

Also, you just need to put your local LAN addresses in the trusted zone to stop the firewall from blocking access.
