First of all, Hello exeryone at PCMech
Now for my dilema.. A friend and I have a not so serious, but frustrating problem when it comes to online gaming. A friend and I have been trying to connect to play a few online games but it seems that there is a problem between our two computers. We have tried to connect to each others servers on Jedi Academy and can't get past the "Awaiting Connection" screen. Also in Starcraft we receive an error that there is too much latency for the server to handle. Even the direct connect feature of AIM won't work because it doesn't recognize when we accept the direct connection. The interesting part is that we both have a mutual friend and can connect to his servers and direct connect to him fine. The problem is only when we try to connect to each other. At first we thought it may have been the computer he was using but the problem still persists even when he uses his alternate computer. Any ideas what the problem is or how to solve it? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
Welcome to PcMech! Are either of you behind a router or using firewall software? HTH |

Neither of us have a firewall. However, his computer is part of a network at his home so both computers can have an internet connection on the same ip.
I don't have a router or a network running but he said he has one network with several accounts. We don't really know what a router is (sorry) is but from the definition we found on google he doesn't think he has one. |

How are his computers networked, he must be running ICS or a proxy server. Does he have the XP firewall enabled? What is the IP address of the machine he's trying to connect to you with?

col penguin: The network is just a shared internet connection, and the problem began long before it even existed. There's nothing that information has to go through between the two comps
I am just posting his response to you all since he doesn't have an account. I was wondering if maybe Windows ME has something to do with it(it seems to cause its fare share of problems). Maybe a built in security seeting or something? |
