In case anyone missed it, someone posted a problem in Win9x Help that turned out to be yet ANOTHER spyware app from a website, this time http://www.idrive.com
It lists itself as "Idrive Proxy", and when the person ran an anti-spyware app, he started getting error messages at boot. This is the third such site/app I've heard of, the most notorious from my experiences being Gohip, a search portal, that promptly adds an ad banner to your outgoing mail as a signature. The new Real Player is also full of this type of stuff. The standard install adds Real Jukebox (which associates itself with all audio formats, and DOES NOT disassociate when you uninstall), and Real Download manager, which promptly crashes most browsers, by displaying a grand total of three popup banners each time you attempt to download a file, very similar to Netscape's ill-fated "Smart Download". Anyone else care to post their list of spyware apps and sites? Xayd |
