DSL modems

I will be getting DSL in about a week and wanted to know if it was possible to use 2 dsl modems one in my room and one in my son's room to connect online for the internet. I am trying not run any cat5 through out my house and at this time i can't afford a wireless kit but because i own 2 dsl modems i was wondering if it was possible to use the phone jack and modem in another room?

Thanks for your help...... Malachi

Well, I am not quite sure, but you could try it, and if it doesn't work, then you will just have to use 1 computer until you can get your hands on some wireless. Wireless seems to be really inexensive anymore, just check it out.

Here is a reasonably priced wirelss solution:

Netgear Wirless Router: $60 (after 20 mail in rebate)

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...tby=14&order=1

2 Netgear Wireless Access Points (About $80 after maail in rebate, assuming you can only have 1 Rebate per household, otherwise another rebate would take it down to $60)

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...=BROWSE&depa=1

So for about $150 you can have a fairly good wireless network going. If you can afford it.

Yes, but you can only use one at a time.

A wireless router and ONE wireless NIC is pretty cheap - you would directly wire your computer to the router with CAT5.

You should be able to get both a router and a card for under 100 bucks and a wired NIC for your machine is 10 bucks if you don't have one or one doesn't come in your install kit.

I prefer D-Link wireless equipment right now, and there are tons of rebates on the old "B" gear to move them out.

can you really do two dsl modems on one line? I tried that before, When I tried to connect, my modem was not ready. I had to unplug the modem on the other line, then I could go online. If using two modems, I don't think you can use it one at a time. Tried that.

only one DSL modem may be connected to the phone line at any time.

If you have to, you could unplug on and plug up the other and switch back and forth, that will get old very fast.
Like GLC said, wireless is getting cheap now.

I would avoild NETgear routers, look at DSL reports, some areas, netgear routers are having problems with the BBG connections, better known as the PPPoE connection.

I have worked with some of those customers.
