hi, I have charter cable with a linksys router, but I get disconnect one time per day

Recently I switched from DSL to cable. When my PC connected directly(1 to 1) to the cable modem, the speed is great and no disconnection. Once, I share my cable with ethernet linksys route to my dad pc. It would disconnect at least 1 per day.

I did a test, when there was a disconnection, I placed my ethernet cable connect directly to the cable modem, making sure does the cable really offline or not?

The result, I got connection when I go PC -- cable modem, but once I switched to PC--linksys--cable modem, it would disconnect, and I have to reset linksys.

Why?

p.s I discovered my dad pc can't get Direct connection through his pc--Cable modem. why is that?

first set the lease time to zero on the main set-up menu of the router
and set to get IP automatically

the isp is set to use one ip address which is your computer.
when you connect his it will have a differant ip address and not connect

the best way is to use the pouter and switching, usally a 4 port switch is built into the router.

the main problem your having is the lease timming out.

I'd contact Linksys. There is no reason the lease time should affect your connection, as long as there's nothing wrong with your PC or the router.

A while back, this topic came up and a number of people swore it was the reason for disconnections. I reconfigured my router and ran for weeks with it set to 1/2 hour, the shortest lease time allowed. I never saw any ill effects from the configuration. I finally set it back to what I normally run, 1 day leases, but the lease time shouldn't be an issue at all.

BTW, the WAN lease time is determined by your ISP, you can't do anything about it. The LAN lease time is determined by your DHCP server in the router, you can tinker with that one.
