Problem using router print server port
I have two XP computers and a Win98 computer connected to a D-Link router for Internet access and printer sharing.
The printer is an Epson Stylus 777. The connection from the printer to the router is via a parallel cable. The Win98 computer and one of the XP computers can share the printer on the router. The second XP computer could not share the printer. When I try to print a test page from this computer, the page is sent to the print queue and just stays there. There is no error message that printing has failed. D-Link's instruction for the printer set up is to add a port on the computer with the IP address of the router, i.e. using IP printing. The two XP computers are set up exactly the same. I ping the router from this XP computer and ping is fine. I can also access Internet from this XP computer. I just cannot print. I also reloaded the printer drivers couple of times and then rebooted the computer. Anyone knows how I can test the network print port on this XP computer to diagnose the problem?

Yes. When I added the printer, I created an TCP/IP port for the printer attached to the router. The IP address for the printer port is the same as the admin IP address for the router, i.e. according to D-Link.
After I created the printer, I went into the printer property and check the port configuration. The IP address is the same as I entered. I use the same IP address in my second XP computer and that one works. |

you do not want to use the same ip address as the router
like the other systems it needs a ip address of its oun it should be a static address too, not dchp one, I am going by the way mine is set up. I have a seperate server that pluggs in to the printer but shouls all work the same anyway if you have 3 systems in the lan the ip address shoulb be 192.168.1.102 192.168.1.103 192.168.1.104 and the print server ip should be 192,168.1.105 this is just a sample of what I think it should be like. the admin should be 192.168.1.1 hope this helps |

Thank you for the suggestions.
I found the problem with the port configuration. The LPR Settings queue name is supposed to be lp (i.e. LP in lower case). I entered Ip instead. After I fixed the typo, the XP computer can share the printer on the server without any problems.
