gigabit network connections (1000mbps) is far faster than your internet connection (2mbps or so) so it will not make your surfing any faster. where gigabit will make a difference is on your LAN (pc to pc or pc to server connections) where both devices are gigabit connected.

Gigabit lan is the ability to connect at 10/100/1000 instead of the normal 10/100 connection. It is only useful if you have an expensive router that supports gigabit lan. The reason it is prolly on your mobo is that it provides room for expansion in the future, when the pricing drops. Will it make your internet faster? No. The internet only uses about 2-3 megabits of the 10/100 that you would normally use, so unless your network is clogged, it wont make much difference. HTH

a gigabit capable network card won't speed up your internet connection at all. it's for local area connection (lan's); it'll give local machines more bandwidth to access your computer, sort of like opening a two lane highway into a four lane highway. your internet connection is a wide area network (wan).
