Boom internet connection problem

i just got a new computer for x-mas and it wont connect to the internet! i have 2 other computers in the house that connect to the same provider just fine. this new one will dial into the ISP but wont connect. the modem works fine, i registered a few programs with it. but it has an error 777. which is something about the modem being offline or out of order or something.
the other 2 computers that will connect have V.90 modems and the new one is a V.92, would this be a problem? i think its a problem with the ISP, i'm going to call tomorrow but i figured i would ask here first. thanks!

I would double check your settings, sounds like something is set wrong.

did you go to the device manager and see if everything looks ok.

What name brand is the modem supposed to be...XP will sometimes load a generic driver for the modem before you can point it to the right driver. You may want to try updating the driver with the cd that came with the computer. I had to go out the other night for that very reason. Just a thought.

i'll try that, my dad set the computer up before i could, and i know more about them than he does. i was reading one of the books that came with it about installing drivers for the modem, but he said it was installed and all, but i'll try it.
