Foldin' For PCMech!
|
i'm new to the networking world so i'm sorry for the lack of vocab and understanding. i have 3 computers i want to network on a small home networking system to play games and transfre files mainly. i'm also on dial-up internet not broadband. as of right now i'm only networking 2 of the computers, but will be getting the third in it in a few days or so. both computers are windows XP home. i have 2 stright cables going into a Vable/DSL 4-port Router and to the 2 computers. i have one computer with a modem hooked up to my dial-up internet. i managed to get the 2 computers working, they will transfer files if put in a specific folder. but i want total access to the other computer from the one i'm sitting at, is this possible? also how do i setup my internet to work on both computers in the network? it will work on one, but not both.

Most, if not all, routers meant for sharing broadband come with switched hubs.
If you want to totally control one PC from the other, you will need some kind of remote-access software. |

ok, well then if i have a switching hub how do i get it to work? i read the booklet and its all meant for broadband, dial-up doesn't apply to what its saying. i am totally lost when it comes to this stuff!
i don't want to totally control the other computers, i just want full access to all the files on one computer from another. its easier to transfer files that way instead of having to move them into a specific folder. |
