I cleaned a computer of a virus last night and see a file named OWSOCK32.DLO. I suspect that the virus had renamed the WSOCK32.DLL file. Can anyone confirm this or is it a file that Windows needs?

You need the WSOCK32.DLL file on your system.

Hal, I replaced the WSOCK32.DLL file from the Win 98 disk. My question is about the OWSOCK32.DLO file. Is that one needed?

Not that I know of - toss it in the recycle bin and see if everything works.

What really is of prime importance is what virus you had.. post that & perhaps the rest can be made sure of.

I did not have this virus. It was on a friends computer. But anyway it comes attached to an e-mail called HaHaHa Snow White and the seven Dwarfs...
