Satellite television behemoth DirecTV struck a decisive blow against signal pirates Sunday night,
when it transmitted a carefully-crafted electronic signal from its orbiting satellites and destroyed
thousands of hacked smart cards, which for the last four years allowed pirates to gain free access
to hundreds of channels of programming.
