Red face

I had a win nt server with a dial up isdn modem. Whenever i log on to the internet, the server has no problem surfing but other computer (win98) cannot open the internet page. i encounter "page not found etc....." error message.
I click refresh, select "detect automatic setting" in LAN setting of the win 98 internet explorer 5 option and tried different port, but to no avail. i had no problem transfeering files in network neighbourhood.

Please help.

You need MS Proxy Server or some other sharing software (Winroute, Winproxy, Sygate, etc.) to share the Internet connection.

Send a message via AIM to mosquito
Did you fill out the proxy server in the web browser of the client?

If you are using MS Proxy, you need to install the Winsock proxy client on each workstation.

I'm not sure about the proxy thing, but i'm uisng microsoft management console. Ifoggoten to tell you that my secretary pc is able to connect to the internet. the setting for ie5 properties are the same. in ie5 property, no proxy is used.
Should i enable proxy in the main server?

What could be wrong?

what kind of modem do you use, an office I work in has a 3com officeconnect. (sends its own dynamic IP addresses)

You may or will have to install ipx/spx compatible for each 98 machine...have autodetect set(think you said it already is), (I'm not at the office right now so I can't confirm whetehr or not dns is enabled) this is the only way two of 5 comps will connect for me. (this is done on the actual card not the ppp adapter).

I'll check the settings to be sure and try to remember to post more if needed.

Cheers

*no guarantees.
