Question about file sharing

I just want to check if I did this right.

I set up my Belkin wireless card in my laptop and my desktop and set the IP address.

Now I went to the desktop and right click on "C" and picked sharing and let the computer do it's thing, I did the samething on the "D" drive and also did the samething on the laptop and now I can see all the harddrives on both computers.

Is this the right way to see the harddrives on both computers.

Trying to fix my dial up internet problem so I'm trying to see if I did something wrong in my setup. Thanks.

its not always a good idea to share the entire drive, folders and files ok, you do not want to share the O/S system files.
it opens the whole system to the world.

Well, presuming his firewall protection is in place, he's only sharing it with his little world.
