I am working with a local network and I am having problems with IP addressing. The DHCP server is assigning multiple computers the same IP address. Insted of relocating the computers to another IP address it simply gives it another address that a computer is currently using. If you could give me some information on the type of problem that I might be encountering then please tell me.

The only thing I can think of is that the computers are not releasing the IP addresses, you may want to force them to do that through winipcfg.

What DHCP server are you using?
If you are resetting your DHCP server, then it will not know which MAC addresses are assigned to which IP address. IOW - don't clear your DHCP tables or else you're looking for trouble (unless you release ALL your workstation's addresses after doing it). Regardless of whether a workstation releases it's address, the DHCP server should be able to avoid these conflicts by doing a simple table lookup to see if that address is already in use. I would also make sure your DHCP scope is big enough to accomodate all your machines. |
