Internal Authentication Error......
Ok, I am trying to get this Compaq 5000US modem connecting again. The OS is ME. The Modem is a PCTEL Platinum V.90, connecting to MSN Dial-up service.
It dials and connects, but then throws an "Internal Authentication Error"<---I dont know what that means Exactly or how to correct it. Its says: "Dial-up Networking was unable to complete the connection. Error 645. The Microsoft Dial-Up Adapter is not installed or not responding properly. In the Network Section of control panel, remove the driver and then add it again." There's nothing in the Network section titled "Dial-Up Adapter". I've removed and added different things but nothing changes. It worked fine until I in/correctly did the ENUM trick a few months back. All the other hardare reinstalled fine and the modem works fine except for this "Error". Not sure what to do, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanx! Also, I have been to the Microsoft Knowledge base and didnt find anything useful. The only thing I found on error 645 didnt apply to this dial-up adapter situation. I read other related stuff, but didnt find any fixes. I'll check out compaq's site when I get a chance. PS I am connecting thru this MSN account on this custom PC that I use now without any problems. Add/Remove Programs - Windows Setup - Communications. Uncheck Dialup Networking, reboot. Repeat, this time rechecking it. Reinstall the MSN software.
