Connecting to home network and work network
My laptop connects to my wireless network at home just fine. I would now like to take it to work and connect it to the wireless network there. How do I go about setting that up?
Thanks |

1st thing you do is make sure that you have permission to do so from the network admin.
once he/she ok's that permission, you will recieve the SSID for your network, WEP keys and login instructions (especially if there is additional layers of security for wireless users. |

Thanks for your response. I work for a really small company and I setup the network here (10 computers, 6 printers). So I have permission to make changes. I just need to know what steps to follow. Basically, what I need to know is. Will my laptop automatically recognize both networks? Or will I have to change my ip settings each time I want to use one network or the other? At work we have static Ip's, at home their dynamic.

If you use XP, you can use the alternative network configuration feature, for other versions of Windows, I suspect you'll have to use something like www.netswitcher.com

ok, pull up your wireless utility. you should have the ability to select/create profiles. you should have 1 for home (with the SSID for you home network) and all you need to do is create another profile with the SSID for the office wireless and, if you have it, any WEP encryption keys.
