Captn,

I run Trend PC-Cillin on all my pcs because mainly I get it free with the Asus motherboard s/w.
The other great thing is that it works!!

I'm using AVG. It does an excellent job, and Grisoft does well to keep the definitions up to date. And the best part is that is free from Grisoft.com.

Not that I'm paranoid, nor do I go to questionable websites, but I use AVG and Norton. I figure what one doesn't get, the other will.

I'm using Trend OfficeScan NT for my laptop and Trend PC-Cillin trial (evaluating right now) version. OfficeScan is pretty effective, but I'm not sure about PC-Cillin. I'm on the verge of getting AVG for my desktop on top of PC-Cillin.

on my Macs - Whats a Virus?

on my Wintels - a mix of AVG and Norton. I seem to preffer AVG, it's a lot less invasive.

Norton on two, AVG on two plus AVG on daughter's lappy. I install AVG on all customer repairs if they don't have an up to date AV installed. Had McAfee on a system a few years ago and when I updated it, the update killed my system. Had to reformat the hard drive. Never again will McAfee see one of my systems.

AVG, it does a good job and hasn't caused me any problems on any of my computers. I occasionally do an online scan with Housecall just to double check.

How did McAfee kill your system? I have McAfee 2004 v8.0 installed now with no problems at all. Plus I have had other versions of McAfee installed in the past that never did anything to any of my systems.

Norton 2003 Pro on my desktop, AVG on my laptop. Norton does a bit better job, AVG has a smaller footprint, this is important on a laptop with a 233 and 64 megs ram, Norton dogs it down big time, I tried it.

Don't know how. It was a Gateway Win98se machine that came with McAfee. I waited a year to install an upgraded version. Downloaded the then latest version from McAfee web site and paid online. A few hours later, the clock was off, the cursor was jerky and slow and on restart I got a BSOD. Being a rookie at the time, I called Gateway and went thru all their diagnostics. Couldn't revive it and had to reformat and use backup disks to solve problem. Tested the download one more time and saw the same slow down. Immediately uninstalled McAfee and never had the problem again. Went out and bought Norton soon after.

Right now im on eTrust. I had a old PC with Norton before and it caused lots of trouble, I reinstalled it like 4 times and downloaded lots of "fixes" that did nothing. And my friend uses Norton(fully updated) and hid computer got killed by a virus, he just reformated it. Although I do have NAV 2k3 that came with my mobo.

AntiVir. It is free and alot of friends recommended me that software. It also works well, it already helped us to get rid of some viruses.

AVG in the background, and a Trendmicro Virus scan weekly.
