Smile Sharing A Dialup Connection

I have a buddy that has a dialup connection. He runs Win98 on his little 300Mhz job and uses that to browse the net. Is there a way that we can hook up his game machine (running WinXP) so that it will share the internet connection. They are already on a lan using a little linxus 5port switch. Thanks for any help.

If it's Win98SE, just install Internet Connection Sharing. It's a lot easier to install the dialup on the XP box and share it from there though.

??? Why would I need a crossover cable ??? It would be simpler to share from the XP, but he does not want that one directly connected to the net. He would like to use the 300 for a kind of a filter.

That's wierd. I wonder why you need crossover since it's running through a switch.

no, you don't need a crossover cable if you're running through a switch.

enable internet connection sharing (ics) on the windows 98 machine and share your dialup connection. setup the windows xp machines ip settings so that the windows 98 machine is it's default gateway. that should take care of it.
