Problem connecting to home network

I just moved into a new apartment a couple weeks ago and two of my roomates have computers. Anyway they have a network set up with a small 4 port linksys router. Im having a problem seeing their computers from my network places but im connected to the internet just fine. I checked the settings and the workgroup name is right and im getting an ip address and all that information from the router so I can't figure out why I can't see their computers.

Have you checked to see if NETBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled in your TCP/IP Advanced Properties? Can they see your computer from their systems?

the answer is yes to both questions. Also I tried pinging them and I get a reply but whenever I click on view workgroup computers from my network places It takes a really long time and then I get an error message saying "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is currently unavailiable."

The thing is everything was working fine until I reinstalled XP and now I have this problem.

If you have NETBIOS over TCP/IP on all of the computers, it should work. My next step in these situations is to add the NETBEUI protocol to all the systems, since it gets around the frequent browsing issues you have with TCP/IP in workgroups.

If you open a command prompt on the failing machine and one of the working ones and type:

nbtstat -r

What is the output of each?

yes it is turned off. Also if I boot into safe mode with networking I can access their computers but in normal mode I can't. I can still see them but it tells me that they are not accessible.
