Adding wireless access to network
Hi all,
I'm thinking of adding wireless to my existing network. Right now I have a linux machine doing the routing and firewalling. Do I need a wireless access point or a wireless router? I'm a little confused as to which one to use on a network with an existing router. If access point, do most wireless routers also work as a access point? Thanks in advance. |

I'm looking at this router:
http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/deta...&promo_id=5645 There's a $40 rebate on it, so it would be a pretty good deal. But if a router isn't the ideal option, then maybe it's not such a good idea. Thanks again. |

Router is not the ideal option, you need a straight wireless access point like a Linksys WAP11 or WAP54G to do it right and keep it simple. You *can* use a wireless router if you change its IP address and turn off the DHCP server, and don't use the WAN port. If you buy that USR, better make sure you can do those 2 things.
