Mappings
You will need to map your network drives. To do so open Windows Explorer>Click Tools>Click Map Network Drives...enter the correct info. and then you should be fine. I'm assuming since you are using VPN that both PC's are not on an internal network, therefore you must be connected to the VPN to complete the map request.
Another way is to use the UNC path. Go to Start>Run and type in the path you are trying to access on the other machine. (e.g. \\servername\sharename or \\servername\drive$ Hope this helps! |

Actually once the VPN is connected, you should be able to see all shared drives in your workgroup in My Network Places.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have the VPN connection working however when I go to My Network Places there is nothing there. I have set the permissions on the C: of the acting server pc correctly but not sure if i am also supposed to try and setup a network using the network connection wizard. I did attempt this however i may have done it incorrectly and that maybe why it hasnt worked.
any ideas? Thanks again |

I have tried to make the network using the xp wizard. I firstly went through the setup on one pc and gave the pc a name and workgroup then on the second pc gave the pc a name and the same workgroup but then when its finished it reboots, i then connect the vpn but still no workgroup shows and the pc cant be found when i try to map to it. Im sure its just me missing something simple. does anyone know of a step by step guide for setting this up in XP so then i know im not being stupid and missing the obvious?
Thanks for your help and time on this. Much appreciated. Adrian |
