Spyware help

Or at least I think it is spyware.

Someone at my ex's house downloaded something from a porn site that now has taken over our computer. A pop up comes every 5 minutes and says to download this spamfbi something or other. When it pops up it places about 5 icons of porn sites on the desktop. When we go into the internet the web page is now an add for this site. The icon of the manin pop up is AVM and it is listed in the C: drive programs. If I click to delete it it says it can't be deleted to check if it is write protected. I ran Adaware and Spybot and I thought I got it but it came back. Now Adaware doesn't show anything when I run it and Spybot I can't get to come up except in easy mode. When i do it stops responding at "Clop" or something. How do i get this thing off the computer.

What OS are you running?

Have you tried scanning in Safe Mode?

Scanned for viruses?

If you are running IE, make sure in properties, you change the home page to like www.cnn.com incase it is set for the porn site.

By any chance, have you tried using system restore?

The system is XP, I will try to restore it but that is all I can do. My ex can't find the OS so there is no hope of doing a repair. I tried to reset the home page but it keeps setting itself back to this site.
