Over the past two weeks I've had problems hooking up a 2 computer routered ADSL network.. Thanks to you folks you solved my problem. Now I have both computers talking to each other and they both go on the internet together. But one of the computers intermittently stops communicating with the internet and with the other computer. Some times you have to reboot to get it working and sometimes the service kicks back on by itself. Both computers are on an MS XP home network. In one of the the error logs?? it said the other computer was trying to be a master. Does anyone have any ideas on this? If I was to start networking over again is there anyway to remove the old network system so I can start fresh with out XP using the old setup data?
>D-Link 300i ADSL modem >D-Link 604 Router>D-Link 530TX NIC card in each computer Norton Anti Virus 2003 + Zonealarm standard (this was my problem before didn't have my network on trusted in ZA) Many Thanks Thomsign |

I'd consider uninstalling Zone Alarm - it's not essential behind a router and it may be causing these issues, the standard version is not particularly LAN-friendly. Try it as a test. Make sure the XP ICF (firewall) is off on both machines too.

I took out Zone Alarm and that seems to do the trick and the network is also working faster.\
Thanks very much |
