Phone line>modem Modem>(USB CORD) Desktop Modem>(ETHERNET CORD) router Router>(Wireless) Laptop Router>(ETHERNET CORD) playstation 2 Desktop: Running windows 98 SE Laptop: Running Windows XP Both are on the internet, but I can't get it to share files.. What I need is complete instructions on how to first make sure they are networked, and then how to get them to share files.. like, complete instructions, step by step.. Thanks everyone |

well u need to link the desktop to the router with an ethernet cable.
if u dont have an ethernet port on the desktop then u can get one for a PCI slot quite cheap.. try ebay perhaps. this is step 1. lol |

I think the desktop is connected to the router already.
I think he needs directions on setting it up software wise.

You have to enable "file and print sharing" in the network properties of both OS's.

sounds like the desktop is only connected to the modem (directly), and it probably doesn't have an ethernet port. |

Wait a minute..........
Reading the above description, you need to connect the modem ONLY to the router with Ethernet, do NOT use the USB. Connect the desktop to the router with Ethernet. Then you can use traditional filesharing in addition to internet sharing, the router will control everything. |
