hi
Recently, my cousin told me that if i could use a different operating system other than windows (because i m using windows in my "main com") , i m less vulnerable to virus because viruses are usually written to target specific operating systems. i m going to have a main cpu using windows and put all the songs, videos, games etc onto another cpu(that has only a few hard drives , fan mother board and ram cards). i was just wandering how could i possibly transfer files from my original hardisk(the one in my main cpu) which is operated by windows xp and transfer it to the other hard disks (using linux)... and i just want to know what else (soft ware) that i need to use to be able to gain a full access to the storage cpu.. thanks! |

you can store any file to a linux system, but to be able to run any applications, they would need to be put back on the windows system.
songs and pictures can be used on both systems with the proper software packages installed on the linux system. but I think you may be getting a bit too parinoide on this matter, there is really no reason you can't store all this data to a dvd rw disk for safe storage, I think that would be more cost effictive fo you if that is all you need to do. |

I actually have not done it yet, but about ready to try it some day.
its not really so much a software program, once you have a linux system running and set up to network with your other system, the way you get windows to read a linux system and visa versa, is more in the way you set up windows and linux. I would recommend that you use the latest linux system and read the manual on how to set it up, any apps will be a free download from most any linux site. I can't think of how to do it at this moment. |

I'm not sure about linux, but Alohabob-pcUltra4.5 is the best software I've found for transferring files, Os's and the like.
