is this wireless router good?
right now I just have two computers I want to network and share files, Internet, printers, etc. They are pretty close to each other so I think it's a good idea to just connect them to a cable router with wires. My question is: If I buy a laptop, I'd want to add it to the network which means I will need a wireless cable router. Can I setup the two computers to be connected by wires to the wireless router while the laptop is networked via wifi at the same time? How will the Internet be on each computer?
Is this router good enough for me? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...122-016&depa=0 NETGEAR 54Mbps Cable/DSL Wireless Router, Model WGR614 - Retail (limit 3 per customer) - Specifications - Standards: IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.3 Data rate: Up to 54Mbps Security: Up to 152-Bit WEP Ports: One 10/100 Mbps (auto-sensing) Ethernet, RJ-45 WAN port, Four 10/100 Mbps (auto-sensing) Ethernet, RJ-45 LAN ports Dimensions in) 1.1 x 6.9 x 4.7OS Support: Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 Pro, XP Mac OS, NetWare, UNIX, or Linux How do I protect the network from hackers and what not? With this router, is there a way to keep outside people from getting on my network and stealing bandwidth? Last edited by ACLerok; 03-19-2004 at 04:00 PM. |

Yes, that router will do what you want. I personally do not recommend Netgear routers, but it's suited for your task. The router will serve as a firewall, just make sure you use proper wireless security settings.
