Networking 2 computers = problems!
I have an ASUS P4S800 with onboard LAN on my machine. I have another machine that has a generic 10/100 network card. They are connected by an RJ45 Ethernet cable. The make is Belkin and it is a FastCAT5e cable. Both computers say "Network Cable is unplugged". What is wrong?

Are you sure that you have a crossover cable ?

Damn it's a Patch Cable. I asked them and they said this was all I needed.

"They" were wrong, you need a crossover cable.

Or another twisted pair cable and a hub. . . or one Gigabit Ethernet controller.
But I think a new crossover cable will be the cheapest sollution. I would complain so they just have to exchange the cable. RJ |

Thanks I got it all working now. I am really happy, I didn't know we could both use the internet at the same time. I have the printer set up as well so we all can use it. We can also play multiplayer gaming over LAN which is brilliant. We also share music with each other, etc. I returned the Patch cable to Dixons. They did not have a crossover cable so I had to order one off the internet. I have a dial-up connection - getting Broadband when it is available in our area. Can't wait!
