Question Fast way to transfer data

In my country, I have DSL. My friend has DSL & also the same telecom company. What is the best way to transfer data to/from our pc?
Just wondering, if I use third party applications, IM, P2P, transfer will be less right? Or not siignificant.

So you want to transfer data between two computers that are connected to the Internet ?

Use FTP programs, like BPFTP (Server) and SmartFTP (Client).

That's the programs that my friend and I always use.

Data may be around 170mb one file. 24-100 files. We are in different states.
If I use FTP, the other uesr cannot mess my files right? He can browse & download but not delete, change names and so fourth.

IM works pretty good for that. If you install a FTP server, you have to set up appropriate security.

Depends. You set it up the way you like. If you deny deleting and name changing then it won't be possible.

I for example have a folder called ftp, it is empty by default. In BPFTP I added that folder and gave it full access (including deleting etc.). That way my friend can copy data to my hard drive. We only put copies of the data in that folder so everything is fine.
