Wireless print server help
I need some help with a failed wireless print server installation.
Background info: 1. Two PCs; one wired to a 4-port D-Link 614+ router/WAP and one with a D-Link wireless card. The computers are not on the same workgroup and do not share files. The wireless signal is encrypted. 2. IOGEAR, 1-port, USB wireless print server (GPSU01). Both PCs are running XP home. 3. Lexmark X83 multifunction printer (bi directional communications). Formerly connected to the wired PC. I hooked the print server up to the hub, but both PCs lost communication with the printer … even the wired one. I'm just looking for some guidance. I'm not even sure this type of printer (multi-function) will work in this arrangement. Thanks in advance. |

The X83 may not be print server compatible. However, have you installed the print server drivers on each computer and redirected the X83 to the print server port?

Yes, I installed the print server driver on both machines.
I'm guessing that a multi-function printer, at least this one, may not work with a print server. Thanks for keeping me from having a goose egg! |

The printer section *should* work, but the scanner and fax from PC will definitely not work. You need a higher end multifunction to get networking capabilities.
