Advice on Buying

Ok, I have a question.

1) Do routers over time cut down your broadband stream?

I have a DLink DI-614+ at the moment. It , as of late, been cutting myt speed in half. This is extremely annoying, as my friend can load the Spiderman 2 trailer in less than a minute and 10 seconds, where as mine takes about 5-8 minutes. The other thing is this isn't a WIRELESS connection. It is on the ethernet. Thus, I wouldn't think it should decrease. I called DLink to find out what they say about it. To my surprise the guy said he'd recieved calls about this on about every DLink router. Moreover, there was no fix. No firmware update or switch. BestBuy said that this happens on almost any router. Thus, I am, until I upgrade routers, stuck with half of my speed.

Thus, that leads me to my final question.

1) Is now the time to buy a router.

I know technology is basically outdated the minute you purchase it. However, I was reading on ZDNET that there are some new forms of wireless routing coming soon. (I believe 802.11i, 802.11e)

Thus, should i upgrade the router now, or wait a couple months.

If I should not wait, and upgrade now, what brand would be the best. I have been told that Linksys is great because its owned by Cisco. The other company recommended was Netgear. Of course, DLink is always welcomed again i guess.

Anyway, advice would be appriciated. Thanks.
