then pc 2 seams to be having the problem only.
have only the one pc (2) connected and trouble shoot with that one only, when we can get it set to connect to the internet, then the problem is solved. so connect just that one and di the ipconfiq thing , then do the relaese and renew, see what happens. also sence it is a xp system, it can and will confiqure itsself to the internet, you can play with it a bit and another thing that might work is to remove all the network connections in the control panel and reboot, that should make it reinstall and set up things by its self, do the same with the network card too, but just be sure to do it all while connected, another thing that has worked in the past is to power down everything, power up modem, power up the xp system and it should auto detect things too. |

Very frustrating!! You think it could just be a non-compatible NIC? Heck, it's the same one I was using when I was running Win 98.2. (DLink DFE-530TX+) |

Again, agreed
- The only spare NIC I have is just another one of the same. Maybe I'll swap 'em out, doing a reboot and network clean out inbetween. Can't hurt...

Can you ping addresses from the problem PC? You can try repairing the winsock using the LSP fix. It's a far shot, but at this point, it wouldn't hurt to try, right?

Yes, I can ping when both PCs are up. The only thing I can ping with PC #2, with PC #1 turned off, is the modem.

New Info!:
If I have both PCs running, meaning that PC #2 can get online, and Disconnect PC #1 (with it still running), then PC #2 Will stay connected. PC #2 will still Not stay connected if PC #1 is simply powered down, the connection is lost. |

Well, It's Fixed!! It was an I.D. Ten T error.....
My office phone was running thru the old internal DSL modem. I had it removed from Device Manager, and Disabled in Network Connections. But, being a DSL modem, not a regular analog modem like I was thinking, it was still using the unfiltered phone line. I physically pulled the card, and now everything is just fine. Sorry for being such an IDIOT! (ie: I.D. Ten T) So embarrassing.... It's just as bad as a new printer not working, and you forgot to plug the dang thing in! TwoRails |

"Back on Track"
I like it!!Wow... It's been Sixteen DAYs since I've been on! Talk about withdrawals! LOL ![]() Now everything is fine, and my double up on speed does really shine on downloads, and Web pages two. But the real, main reason for the upgrade is so my wife can get online without this box being fired up. Now she can. Thanks for all the help Everybody!! TwoRails -- Back on Track

ya know what i think.
pc1 has its mac adress registered wif the ISP, and when its on it can get online and the isp knows its you. the router however has a different mac address, if you were to get the isp to add the mac address of the router to your account i have the feeling it will work. See here in the UK i have to tell my isp the mac address of the computer / router connected to the modem or it wont work well i posted this and you must have posted at the same time ![]() glad its fixed ignore this post |

Just in case anyone else is experiencing a similar problem: I did run into a second problem. I had a conflict with my machine as it was the Host in the last config. I had forgotten to tell Zone Alarm Pro that it was no longer the Gateway to the Internet. Now, everything seems to be running just fine

Glad you got it up and running, networking problems is such a pain in the butt. Almost as bad as having Windows problems itself.
Cheers |
