trying to add my laptop to my network...

I have a phoneline network. One of the computers in it, that hooks up to the DSL, is the server PC. It uses Sygate to manage the network, and has windows 98.

One of the computers on the network is running windows XP. I installed a 10/100 card in this PC, and i'm trying to network my new laptop to this PC via 10/100. I have no idea what settings to use... so far i've only been able to get the PC (not laptop) to use either one network or the other. I don't even know if what i'm trying to do is possible. My laptop uses windows XP as well.

can anyone shed some light on the settings I have the configure my PC to use both networks?
