Problem w/ laptop using Netgear WAG511 adapter
Hello all here is my problem,
I have network of 4 PCs (1 Host PC, 2 Wireless desktops, and 1 wireless laptop). Currently, the wireless laptop is not able to access the internet. I am using a WAG511 Netgear adapter. The Host PC and the wirelesss desktops are OK. When I do an "ipconfig" on the laptop, the only fields I get is Autoconfiguration IP Address and Subnet Mask. Security is disabled, DHCP is enabled and the SSID is correct on all PCs and signal strength of all PCs are good so I do not think it might be a problem with hardware. For some reason, it isn't picking up an IP address from the ISP. But this is just my thoughts. Please provide me with any insight on this with some of your ideas. Thanx. |

First, what OS is the laptop useing, if its XP make sure zero config is on. Also make sure your router has wireless enabled and that its broadcasting the network name.

Thanks for replying Blue,
1. The router is set-up to brodacast the network name. That part is cool. 2. The OS is XP and where/how do I set-up zero config. Thanx. |

Control Panel, admin tools, services. Scrol down the page and find Wireless Zero Config. Make sure its set to automatic and that its started. Take out the wireless adapter, restart, then put it back in. Something *should* come up to setup the access. Also if your router uses WEP make sure you have the code to put in.

No Dice.....
Zero Cofig is started, I tried taking out and putting back the adapter the way you suggested and no luck. WEP is disabled on the network as well. I don't undertand, it gets good signal and everything. |

If you are using a router, there is no "host" PC - or are you using ICS with a hub and wireless access point?
Please give us the exact details of how you have everything hooked up. |

I have a Netgear FM114P Wireless Firewall/ Router connected to my PC that accesses the internet via cable modem. My laptop and 2 other PCs are grabbing the signal from this router (wirelessly). Not sure about ICS. Bare in mind, I'm not a Pro at ths guys. Hope this helps out....
