Problems with home Workgroup: one computer can access the other but not vice versa
Hi,
I have set up a home network. The hardware is working and I am pretty happy with how easy it was, but I have one last problem. I have 2 computers and I have made a "workgroup": 1)my main computer (running Windows 2000) 2)my old computer (running WinNT) I can access my old computer (#2) with my main computer (#1) by logging on as the adminsitrator of the old computer. I can transfer file to and from it etc and all works well. BUT, I can't access my main computer (#1) with my old computer (#2). I try to log on as the administrator of my main computer and it says: "Logon falure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer" I also tried to set up a special user through the control panel with a password but that doesn't work either. If someone could give me some hints I would really appreciate it. I am not sure what "user" I should be trying to sign onto my main computer as. Also, I checked the local directory permissons and even tried to temporarily set it to "everyone" having access but it still didn't work. thank you! I am almost there!! Catherine |

Let's say that you log onto the main 2K computer as "user1" with password "pass1". Let's also say that you log on to the NT box as "user2" with "pass2".
On the 2K box, right click on My Computer, select Manage. Go to Users and Groups, select Users. Add a user - username "user2" and password "pass2". On the NT box, go to Administrative Tools in the start menu, choose User Manager (I think - it's been a while) - and add a user - username "user1" and password "pass1". |

Hey glc! Niice to see you again after so long: seems you are always coming to my rescue
![]() Anyway, it's working! I did as you said but I also had to do something else that I found by sticking the error message in google: Start run gpedit.msc windows settings security settings local policies user rights access this computer from the network I had to do that on the Win2k box for the user of the WinNT box. It works like a charm!. Now to see if I can access the internet from my WinNT box, or better, use it as a firewall for my main computer. But I will leave that for another day ![]() thanx again Catherine. |
