Ok, let me start off by saying what I did was very stupid, but apparently when I get bored I do stupid things. Now, my norton internet security subscription expired a day or 2 ago and I decided, hmm lets fool around with the registry and see if I can get around the expiration date
I went into the Local machine folder i think and then deleted, yes deleted the symantec folder. (I figured it would only mess with norton, not my internet connection, and it was expired anyway) After that, i restarted my computer and was unable to connect to the internet, or use the network to send files from computer to computer. Any ideas would be appreciated. By the way, i already did a system restore to try to reverse it. Nada.

What OS?? Do an ipconfig if win2k/xp and see if you are getting vailid IP address IF win9x do winipcfg.. Check device manager, and check IP settings you should be able without much trouble to set things back to how you need them to be..

Expired or not, you need to reinstall every Symantec app you had on there - and then uninstall it the correct way. If that doesn't fix it, you may be looking at a Windows reinstall.

Windows XP. I cant seem to run ipconfig. A black window pops up for less than a second and closes. Device manager, everything seems to be working fine. I tried to uninstall the symantec progs but it says a file is missing and wont let me. And I would have no prob just reinstalling xp, but it would involve 100$ out of my dwindling bank account.

You have to run it from command line.. In the run box type cmd. Then do IPCONFIG from the command line and at least you may get a clue as to what is going on there.. Did you loose your XP disk??

When I type ipconfig it says: Ip Adress: 0.0.0.0.0:00 something like that and subnetmask:the same. And yes, I did lose my disk, I've looked all over but no luck

1. http://tntmax.com/Download/Software/...XPFix.exe/view (this should fix it). If not, try this one: http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm
2. Try repairing your local area connection (right click on it). 3. I meant for you to try reinstalling your Symantec apps *over the top* of what's there. |
