If you are using NTFS file system then I think you can right clicking the folder where your files are and place a tick in the do not share this folder.

Then he couldn't get the files from his laptop. You can PW protect files in XP, not sure how though. I was just looking and you can set the folder as "private" maybe if you have the same user account on both your desktop and laptop you can access it? I am unsure on this.

NTFS, no matter what the OS (NT4, 2K, XP Home & Pro), has the ability to set permissions. What OS's are on your network and the computers you will be using? Do you ever use his computer? All this depends on how you will set the permissions but most likely you will just put your User Name in the permissions. If your User Name is the same on all computers it may complicate things, but hey, that's what we are here for. Report back.

Grrr
... here:Goto into windows explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View Tab > Scroll to Bottom and uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing" Right clicking on that option for help specifies that without it checked then you can set individual permissions instead of general shares. |

Sorry, guess you're up a creek w/o a paddle.
NOTE: The Simple File Sharing interface cannot be disabled in Windows XP Home Edition. This is a limitation of Windows XP Home Edition http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;303248 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;304040 |
