Must the wireless router be connected to one of the computers via ethernet cable or can both/all computers be configured wireless?

once the router is configured (from a hard connection), you can be completely wireless at that point. there is no need for a hard wired PC.

Hope you're right mbossman2, cuz there is no way to get an ethernet cable from the modem/router location to the computer location. I'm going to try to use the notebook first with a cabled connection. Then set up the desktop unit, then go back and change the notebook from wired to wireless. That sound like the best way?

if you look at most companies who have wireless deployed, the only wired connection to an access point is the one rolling back to the IDF and that is just to provide connectivity to the larger network. a router with wireless built in provides that wired connection internally.

the only issue you may have is coverage as most consumer grade wireless devices use a lower power radio (30-50mW) which greatly curtail range and that can be solved with a little trial and error and moving/reorienting the wireless router and antenna.

The only problem would come up when for some reason the connection goes down and they can't surf into the router, course, then they can call you to come fix it, for a small fee?

if the signal loss is due to a router failure, it is simple as dragging the laptop back to the router and hooking back up...but once configured and assuming no issues with the router: a hardwired connection to the router is not a requirement for the wireless to work.

Thanx guys. That's good news. I'll let ya know how it goes. His cable install is next week sometime so I'll probably be there next weekend.
