Usually when an incoming president owes his job to someone he feels compelled to offer this person a position in the administration. If this person has radically different views, as in this case, they are often offered a position that has little impact on policy.

This is why I think Ralph Nader deserves to be named an amassador to somewhere far away.

Perhaps we should build an embassy in Gaza and send him there to keep an eye on Arafat.

Few people are aware that Ralph Nader is a graduate of Harvard Law School, so he’s no chump intellectually. Upon graduation from Harvard, Ralph turned his back on the Legal Profession and was in fact very critical of it. Much of his criticism of Lawyers was deserved. He gave up mega-bucks and instead devoted his life to the thankless (and low paying) area of consumer protection. Most have heard of his early book “Unsafe At Any Speed” where he went after the poorly designed Corvair. I admire Ralph for many of his convictions and beliefs although I don’t think he’s the man for the job when it comes to the Presidency.

I was kind of thinking that the Space Station needs an ambassador. I don't really have much respect for Nader and his socialist views. He did have some good ideas on campaign finance reform. The best thing that he did was to keep Al Gore from becoming president.

Here are some of his views:

  • High gas prices are the fruit of corporate power. (Jun 29)
  • Allow citizen lawsuits for waste in govt spending. (Feb 21)
  • Nader supports gay marriage; but gay groups support Gore. (Nov 2)
  • Decreasing unemployment reduces crime; not enforcement. (Aug 14)
  • Death penalty does not deter. (Aug 9)
  • Moratorium on executions. (Aug 9)
  • Regulatory agencies are needed to fight corporate crime. (Dec 1995)
  • Corporate welfare: taxpayers fund defense industry mergers. (Oct 9)
  • Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is discriminatory against gays. (Sep 6)
  • Cut defense budget by $100B; time to demobilize. (May 7)
  • Solution to addiction is information, not prohibition. (Oct 1994)
  • Abandon standardized testing; focus on teaching civic skills. (Oct 8)
  • Invest in K-12 education; that will reduce poverty. (Jun 26)
  • Bush & Gore are same corporate party; would impeach Clinton. (Nov 6)
  • Support Brady Bill & thoughtful gun control. (Jun 25)
  • Against flat tax; keep progressivity. (Oct 1996)
  • Microsoft must be stopped. (Nov 1998)
  • Limit executive salaries & perks. (Feb 21)

How about an ambasidorship on space station Mir? Preferably right before it's deorbited.
