Some of the right-wingers may be waiting for me to start a thread on Jackson. For once, I'm at a loss for words...

It would be a help and relief to all of us if Jesse was at a loss for words.

Jesse self destructed on his own. He didn't need any help.

This didn't hurt Jessie... The people that are for him are the same ones that are with Clinton... They really don't give a rats ass. One month it will all be over and that's just so it looks like some one cared..
His next line is God forgave me so you should too... DONE DEAL... |

In spite of my dislike for him, I feel sorry for him. I would really feel sorry for him if he would have come clean on his own. That is not the way it is done these days though. It is also amazing the response from the others in the Rainbow coalition. I would have been demanding that he pay back the money that was spent to keep her quiet.

Hey mairving,
They ALL come clean and are remorsefull AFTER they've been caught. If he hadn't been exposed, he'd still be doing it. [Edited by LawyerRon on 01-20-2001 at 09:59 PM] |

These politicans are so slippery. Sometimes the ones who make the most noise are the worst offenders. Can you understand Jackson when he talks?

It was funny on a local radio program, they had Paul Shanklin on. He does quite a few funny parodies of Clinton/Gore/Jesse, etc. Well this lady calls in and starts talking about the illegitimate election. Paul Shanklin answers (as Jesse Jackson) and says that he will never use the word illegitimate again. Too funny.
I did hear that he does not plan to go into hibernation. That he is going to continue his struggle, blah, blah. I am sure that he will try to figure out how to blame it on the Republicans. And the worst thing about it, some people will believe him. Amazing. |

Jesse Jackhound is BACK... He said three days was long enough to heal... He even fooled me... I thought it would take at least a month but I guess God works fast when it comes to healing the soul>>

Well it looks like now he is blaming it on Bush. He thinks it was done to sabotage his efforts to block Ashcroft. He also thinks Bush is doing it in retaliation for Bush's DUI coming out. Amazing the arrogance, let's blame everyone and everything but ourselves.

Its unfortunate that Jackson did what he did and even more unfortunate that it came out the way it did. Now maybe he will fade into obscurity where he belongs.

kraken, if this would have happened to someone on the right, I wonder if your answer would be the same.
Anyone in the national spotlight spouting like Jesse does needs to suffer the consequences. Carl |

Kraken, you are entirely right. I don't view myself as being above that. We are all human. To me it is not always the mistakes that you make but what you do with those mistakes. We have this pattern now with everyone from Jimmy Swaggert, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Jim Baker, etc. to be humble and contrite the minute that someone else finds out our dirty little secret. Then, of course, to be blame someone else for our woes. That is the disgusting part. Take responsiblity for your own actions and pay the consequences.

But aren't "moral leaders" like Jesse held to a higer standard? Should they be?

Jesse's "moral standard" is whatever is best for Jesse. It's true, since Jesse is (or once was) a preacher, he should be held to a higher standard. That is my point. That everything is arbitary. There are no standards any more.

I gave up believing that the moral spoutings of people are what they believe. To me Jesse is a politician who stands on moral principles that are related to the struggle for equality. When ever a public persona is critisized for giving into their human frailties I will say the same.
When us mere plebs hold up moral leaders to be better than we are, we apply pressure for them to only show that side of themselves. If George dubbya was to be implicated in a sex scandal I would say the same for him as I would for Bill. It aint none of our business what two consenting adults agree to in private. Unfortunately those in politics seek to destroy their opposites in any way they can. Our opinions are the tools that they use. I will not be the tool of a politician or political party and so dismiss that which I see as normal behaviour amongst normal people. Let ye without sin cast the first stone. |

He doesn't mind being used by the Dems as their pimp. Whenever they need some stirring, they call their little dog and throw him a bone. Surely, he realizes this.
