I have been having a problem with my Toshiba Satellite 105 laptop. It is running window XP, Sp2, 1024mb memory, 80g hard drive. The other day it started to hang up when booting. I tried to go into safe mode using the administrator log in. It starts to log me in then it will log me off after about 15 seconds. There is no error messages just the normal logging on and logging off messages. The computer only came with a disk that only restores it to out of box state. Is there a way to restore this without restoring to out of box state?

Sounds like you might want to slave your hard drive to another pc first and save all your valuable files as a first step. Next, I'd recommend testing your hard drive with the Hitachi/Ibm hard drive diagnostics program on the Ultimate Boot CD. If it shows errors, you'll need a new hard drive. You can then use the Toshiba restore disks and start over. If the drive tests ok, you can do a Repair Install if you have an XP SP2 disk (not the Toshiba restore disk). Just follow the instructions in the thread in our Tips and Tricks section.

Thank you, I did what you said and was able to save all valuable items. I found out that it was a damaged hard drive so I put a new one in and it works great. Thanks for your help.
