Old Software

Hi.. I have tons of old (dating from 1988) legitimate software and it's manuals, including DOS, Windows, Word, Quicken, Avagio, PrintShop, Bodyworks, Quattro Pro, OS2, Flight Simulator, PCTools, Dashboard, etc., etc. plus tons of shareware. Hate to just toss it. Any legitimate good use or need for it?

Thank you,

cuzzzzz

I end up tossing software older than 7-10 years if it's not in use. Partly because it doesn't run on anything anymore, partly because most companies only do upgrades from a few versions back, and partly because I can't even give it away to anyone. If you want new stuff on the shelf, gotta toss the old stuff first to make room.

Are you trying to say nobody's going to be a DOS box to run my old Word Star ?? -- -- Joking aside, ya, I'm one that could free up *a lot* of space if I got rid of some old stuff. It sure did turn old in a hurry, it feels like. Heck, I bought a 5 1/4 floppy drive from another member over a year ago to "recover" some old discs, and guess what? I've never even installed it yet!

Most of the software you have can be replaced, DosBox for instance, by opensource alternatives. I would keep the old OSes around in the form of a virtual appliance. You can carry your old OSes on a flash drive and use vmware to run them if you need to. I keep my old apple 2e virtual OS around because of one program that isn't available now days or at least in a version that is fun plus some really old but really fun games.

you could put it together and throw it on ebay as a package deal.. someone will more than likely buy it. I sold my old OS/2 software real fast that way. Just make sure you know how much it will cost you to ship and pass it on.

You could also take it to the goodwill for a write off.
