When I built this computer I installed the Marvell SATA Raid software. I use network back up now so I don't need it installed. As I understand it if the RAID program is not installed then I would have the use of all 8 SATA ports for drives instead of 4 for drives and 4 for the RAID system.
Can you tell me if this is correct and how to remove the solftware. I have tried a couple of different ways to remove the software but nothing has worked so far. I attached an image of the ports. Right now the 4 black ports are being used for drives and the 3 blue and 1 red port are tied to the RAID backup program and can't run system drives. I now have 2 SATA DVD drives and 4 SATA hard drives that I need to use. Thanks for the help, Brian PS I caught part of your show the other night for the first time. Pretty Cool! |

Go into the bios by pressing F2 at startup. Go to Advanced -> Drive Configuration. What is everything in that area set to? I'm particularly interested in the "Configure SATA as:" setting.
When you boot, do you get a prompt to press Ctrl+I to enter the Intel RAID utility, and/or press Ctrl+M to enter the Marvell RAID utility? What is connected to each SATA port right now? |

The system bios reads:
Use Automatic Mode <Enable> ATA/IDE Mode <Native> Configure SATA as <IDE> S.M.A.R.T. <Enable> SATA Port 0 500 GB HD SATA Port 1 500 GB HD SATA Port 2 500 GB HD SATA Port 3 DVD Burner Primary Master DVD Burner Primary Slave [Not Installed] Hard Disk Pre-Delay [0] As the system boots a screen for the RAID system comes up and reads: Marvell 88SE61xx Controller -Bios Version 1.1.0.34 Adapter 1 Arrays Information: No array is defined! Disks Information: Port Disk Name Size Speed 1 SATA: ST3250820AS 250GB SATA II Press <Ctrl> + <M> to enter Marvell RAID configuration or Press <Space> to continue When I enter the bios it will not allow me to delete the selected drive. Hope this helps to figure out what I can do here. Thanks for your help glc |

Try moving the optical drives to the Intel ports, use the Marvell ports for hard drives only. You are configured correctly, you do not need or want to delete any drives. No array should be defined, the drives should work fine as standalones on the Marvell as is.

How do I access the drives on the Marvell ports? I can't see them from Windows Explorer and the system won't boot, ie; recognize the drives pluged into the Marvell ports.

Do the drives show up in Disk Management? You should put the boot hard drive on SATA 0 on the Intel controller, and your boot optical on SATA 3 on the Intel.

Are there any flagged devices in Device Manager?
The drivers for the controller do have to be installed, whether you are using RAID or not. |

There is one flag that shows up under other devices: PCI Device, Location: PCI Slot 17 (PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0)
I think this is in conjunction with my TV video card. Here is a screen shot of the Device Manager showing the controllers: Last edited by ictrouble; 12-07-2008 at 10:19 PM. |

At this point, I'd contact Intel support by phone or live chat and see what they have to say.

OK, I'll try that. Thanks so much for reading all the post to try and figure this out.
