Error Message: Remote Desktop ActiveX Control

This is my week for computer problems. I will post good news sometime. I promise. (For example, glc I built that media PC you recommended. It rocks!)

The HP Support Team has booted me to the curb calling it a Windows problem. I come to you wise folks for some much needed advice in my WHS installation.

First off, some basic info. I just recently acquired the HP MediaSmart Server EX470. I want to install the server software on my laptop PC, desktop PC, and media PC. All of them are using XP, SP3 as an OS. (Desktop is XP Pro, others Home.)

So far, the software installation has worked on the laptop PC (with some editing of the Host file).

I am able to install the software on the desktop PC. However, when I go to log into the Windows Home Server Console from my desktop, I get the following error message. "An error occurred in the Remote Desktop ActiveX control installed on your computer". Now, I can get on the server to see my files and what not, but when I go to make any administrative changes from the desktop (e.g. connector update), I get that error message. Any ideas? As mentioned before, HP customer support didn't have any ideas and told me it was a Windows problem. Here's what I've tried doing so far. I reset Explorer 7.0. That didn't work. I even REPAIRED XP. No dice. Still get the same error message. Would completely re-installing XP fix it?

I'm hoping this is the last of it (for a while, at least).

Update: The We Got Served blog has this post. http://www.wegotserved.co.uk/2008/05...remote-access/

Not sure if this is the same problem I'm having. I tried hunting for the registry entries the article recommends, but I don't have them.

I figured out a fix for this. I bought a new hard drive and re-installed XP. It works like a dream now.
