Question New Hardware message at startup: doesn't show a device

I have a client's computer that I'm working on that yes, has Windows Me.

I know it is a bad OS but it seems to have been working for them. His problem is his wife connect a new printer, and at bootup to windows it says "Detected New Hardware" but it doesn't specify anything else its is just blank.

What should I do to correct this?

If I click cancel on that message it never loads the desktop, it's like it is stuck, but the screensaver still runs. I booted into safe-mode and remove what printer was there "Quick (something) II" but the message still appear in the normal boot-up. No restore points were made.

So how do I clear or disable that message, for instance, clearing or removing drivers etc?

Thank you

Disconnect the printer and see if it will boot into the desktop. If so, reinstall the printer properly - most USB printers require the drivers be installed BEFORE connecting the printer. Also, you need to make sure that printer is compatible with WinME.

If it will not boot to the desktop with the printer disconnected, try booting into safe mode and try doing a system restore.

Question

The printer is not connect, it still asks.

I tried safe mode removed the printer still says it.

There is no restore point to restore to. I will create one after I fix the problem.

Anymore suggestions?

Thumbs up

Well there was a restore point back in November so I restored to that and it is working fine now.
