I'm fairly safe in assuming this is the first post regarding this topic, but I'm sure it has happened before somewhere to someone.
I loaned a friend one of my older computers that I wasn't using, and knew I was doing the wrong thing when I loaned it, and now I KNOW it was the wrong thing to do, but I can't undo it, so be it...lol! Anyway, he and his wife are heavy smokers, and she likes to over indulge in vodka (I mean, really OVER induldge), and one night of over indulging, she knocked the computer off their desk and crash bang boom to the floor. So now the computer case is shot, and according to my friend, the computer still worked, but the case is being held together by band aids and duct tape. So he asks me to take it back until he/she get over their over indulging, and I bring it home and open it up, and the whole thing smells like cigarettes, and everything is coated with nicotene (I'm assuming that is what gives all the components that yellow hue....lol) I'm sure I can re-install the components into another case, but how do I clean up the components before re-installing them to get that damn sticky nicky off them? I realize some surfaces can be cleaned with alcohol or mayber something stronger, but should I use something along the lines of an electrical spray cleaner on the rest of the parts that can't be wiped (like the mo bo, ram, etc.)? I'm going to be replacing all the cooling fans, they got gobs of yellow crap on the blades, but I do want to clean up as much as possible those components I can still use. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Simple Green, a soft brush, a water rinse, then blow dry.
