WD My Book Pro data recovery
My Book Pro Edition failed and I am looking for ideas on data recovery. I have contacted WD Partners but their prices seem very high.
The WD Diagnostics returned the following message:"08-Error was detected while repairing bad sectors". The drive still spins and lights up, starts to open files and then locks up. The drive stops at the same location on every attempt to open files. |

Create the CD .iso, then burn the iso to a CD using burn as an image. Boot the computer with the CD. See if it can access the drive. If it's eSATA it should be able to, but USB is questionable. If it can't, bust the case open, pull the drive out (this will void the warranty) and connect it internally. Use option 2 in Spinrite. Note that it can take a few DAYS to do its thing, but when it's done, you should have access to all files that aren't corrupted. Note that professional data recovery is frightfully expensive. We use Ontrack, and it's at least $1000 these days. |
