Western Digital 40gb External Drive Data Retrieval
Hello,
I wanted to write and pick your brain to see what you thought about retrieving data from a Western Digigtal 40gb hard drive that won't work. It sounds like it spins for 2 seconds and then it stops. I have a lot data on here and I have tried many things such as freezing it and using didfferent connecting wires too but I haven't been successful. What could I do to retrieve the data from it? Please let me know when you have the chance. Thanks Joe |

Sounds like you've tried all the common methods. About all that's left is sending it out to a data recovery company and spending a BUNCH of $$. One other method that you might consider is finding an exact duplicate, working drive and swapping the circuit boards. If the spinning stopping is a control problem the board swap may allow access. If, on the other hand, the problem is a failing/failed bearing, swapping boards won't do anything for you.
