Backup CD for vista

When I bought my laptop the vendor offered for a $100 service to backup my operating system since the laptop I bought didn't come with a backup CD. I declined since he said it was possible to do it yourself. Since then I've forgotten exactly how to do this since the popup reminder has been turned off

Any idea how I do this?
