typing text on bmp file
I down loaded a picture of some text from a scanner as a bmp, because someone told me it had to be bmp to type more text. I tried downloading it to word from my documents and it downloaded ok, but couldnt type anything new.
 Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

When you scan the text, Windows Scan Wizard has an option to specifically scan as text. Try that and let us know if it works.

If you are using software that came with the scanner, you have to use OCR (optical character recognition). Check your help files.
