texting while driving

After reading a thread by sarge I felt a need to post this. I live in Alaska and up here if you get stopped for texting while driving it is the same as a DUI. I am a fire fighter, rescue tec, and medic. I think it is a good thing. At training last night I was shown a video on youtube about texting while driving. The British has put out a very good ad on what can happen to someone who texts while driving. It is very graphic and disturbing, I think everyone driving age and up should see it. Look up[ graphic crash, UK, dangers of texting while driving] on youtube. I am single with no kids and I wonder sometimes how parents can do what I do without chaining their kids to the bed!

I agree, texting while driving is very dangerous. I did it once while in middle of an argument with someone who hung up on me, I almost crashed right off the freeway, I was doing over 100 miles an hour at the time. I now only use my cell phone hands free in the car with a bluetooth headset.

Texting while driving should carry the death sentence, it is idiocy beyond belief and puts the lives of innocents in danger.

If you go to Chicago and suburbs you will see a lot of people texting away while driving. It is maddness.

You would think it would be common sense not to do something that would distract you from driving a one ton vehicle that's flying down the road at 40-75 miles/hr. But...go figure.

Has anyone seen the video? I would like to know what others think about it. Someone did a good job on it.

For an official public broadcast, some consider it "shocking", which is probably the idea.

Yes, I imagine so. As a emergency responder I see stuff like that all too often. When I see someone driving like a nut I call it job security. Unfortunately it is normally the innocent that gets hurt. I don't think they could have done a better job showing what we see all the time. I think high schools should be required to show it.
